With many options and activities to choose from just mere steps away from your private Maui villa, Kapalua offers the best combination of luxury living and unending vacation to be had anywhere in the world! Here are just a few of the amazing experiences you’ll have when you make the move to beautiful Kapalua:

Napili Bay

Sandwiched between Kapalua and Kahana, Napili Bay features a serene, lush environment making it one of the best places to relax on Maui. Popular with both locals and tourists, it’s a great place for swimming and snorkeling, with a higher than average likelihood of spotting Hawaiian Sea Turtles lounging about the bay. Although weekends can at times be busy, you can always find peace and serenity at Napili Bay.

Kapalua Bay Beach

As most would agree, Kapalua Bay is simply one of the most beautiful beaches in Maui. In fact, this beautiful stretch of sand has been consistently named as one of the best beaches in the world and has even taken home the title of Best Beach in America! Defined by an exquisite half-moon shaped bay, this amazing beach is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing under the warm tropical sunshine. Surrounding this beach is a quiet and peaceful residential neighborhood home to luxurious vacation rentals and resorts. The place is so beautiful that many tourists have ended up staying for good and invested in a real estate here.

Farmers Market Maui

Located just a few minutes from Kapalua Bay Beach, Farmers Market Maui is a vibrant storefront featuring many local goodies one would typically only find at a traditional farmer’s market! A great place to visit for those looking to buy all-local produce, including locally grown fruits such as banana, papaya, mango, and apples, as well as locally grown herbs, local coffee, and much more. Depending on the season, visitors will also find rare fruits like lychee, dragon fruit, and watermelon radishes.

Honolua Bay Marine Reserve

Aside from Napili Bay, another great spot for snorkeling in Kapalua is Honolua Bay. Located off Highway 30, about a 20-min drive from Lahaina, Honolua Bay Marine Reserve consists of the Slaughterhouse Beach, also known as Mokuleia Bay, Honolua Bay, Windmill Beach, and Lipoa Point. Honolua Bay is the main attraction of the area and an ideal spot for snorkeling during the summer months. But if you would prefer to simply admire the incredible views of the area, head to Lipoa Point, a 2-mile loop trail that serves as a viewing point for wildlife in the area.

Dragon’s Teeth

If you are into hiking, head to D.T. Fleming Beach Park, a beautiful beach park only a few minutes from Kapalua Bay Beach on foot. From here, take the short coastal trail going to a lesser-known site known as “Dragon’s Teeth.” Named for its striking resemblance to rows of dragons teeth, this unique formation of lava rock takes a simple, under a mile hike to enjoy! To get here, begin your hike towards the left end of the beach park and journey above the shore break to reach the lower bank that borders the golf course. Follow the tree line, and you will come across the Honokahua Burial Site, an ancient burial site of cultural significance to Native Hawaiians. But take note that this site is off-limits to the public, and you are not allowed to walk on it, so please only admire it from afar. Continue walking towards the path to the Dragon’s Teeth until you reach a patch of disheveled trees. At this point, cut right, and you’ll arrive at the Dragon’s Teeth site.

Kapalua Golf

Kapalua is home to some of the top golf courses in Hawaii, such as the Plantation Course and The Bay Course. These golf courses consistently rank as the top golf course in the country and have received numerous accolades from international golf publications such as Golf Magazine and Golf Digest Courses throughout Kapalua feature beautifully maintained grounds and opens to the stunning views of the West Maui coastline, including the nearby islands of Lanai and Molokai. Best Places to Golf in Kapalua and Kaanapali

Sure, Maui is famous for its pristine beaches and luxury resorts, but this island paradise has a lot more to offer when it comes to recreation. Aside from surfing and snorkelling, Maui is also a world-class destination for golf, especially on the west side of the island, home to Kapalua and Kaanapali. So, it comes as no surprise why real estate in West Maui is in such great demand! Here are several courses in West Maui that are favorites of many homebuyers here:

The Plantation Course
The Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay is a 7,411-yard golf course that is often at the top of many “best golf courses in Hawaii” lists. Set on the gentle slopes of the West Maui Mountains, close to Kapalua Bay, this world-class golf course is surrounded by stunning scenery and opens to the sweeping views of the ocean. The area is also home to numerous luxury condominium residences, such as the Kapalua Bay Villas, a lavish development located in the heart of the Kapalua Resort. Every January, the Plantation Course is host to the PGA Tour’s Sentry Tournament of Champions. During this time of the year, thousands of people flock to the island to witness this spectacular sports event. The Plantation Course has hosted some of the most popular players in the history of golf, such as Justin Leonard, Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, and the legendary Tiger Woods. The Plantation Course’s 18-holes laid across a long-winded course present some challenges even to professional players. However, its expansive fairways and generous greens make it a wonderful place to enjoy a round of golf for players of all skill levels.

The Bay Course at Kapalua
Another popular golf course that has hosted several major professional golf tournaments is the Bay Course at Kapalua. Beautifully landscaped and overlooking stunning views towards the island of Molokai, this iconic property has hosted more than 20 professional golf tournaments since it opened in 1975. Designed by architects Francis Duane and Arnold Palmer, the Bay Course is very popular, yet it still maintains a down-to-earth, friendly vibe. The Bay Course is the original golf course within the grounds of Kapalua Bay and has hosted some of the best players in golf history. Even though the Bay Course at Kapalua is user-friendly for the average golfer, the course’s signature hole, the only hole on Maui to play over the ocean, can prove to be challenging for most golfers. If you are looking for a uniquely challenging course surrounded by breathtaking views, you should not miss the opportunity to play at The Bay Course at Kapalua.

Royal Kaanapali Golf Course at the Kaanapali Resort
Designed by famed golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the Royal Kaanapali course has been one of Maui’s most visited golf courses since it opened in 1962. This 18-hole course is about 6,700 yards, stretching from Maui’s western coastline at sea level before winding towards the foothills of the West Maui Mountains. One of the best features of the Royal Kaanapali is the 5th hole, which takes players directly down to the famous Black Rock Beach. This golf course has a rich history over the years, having been host to the LPGA Kemper Cup and Champions Tour Kaanapali Classic. Arnold Palmer, one of the world’s most famous golfers, is even said to find the Kaanapali Royal’s 18th hole to be one of the most challenging finishing holes he has ever played!

Kaanapali Kai Course
Set on Maui’s West Coast, the Kaanapali Kai Golf Course is one of the most versatile golf courses on the island. Known for its scenic views and easy-going vibe, this course caters to golfers of all skills, from beginners to professionals alike. Here you can play a round of golf amongst the course’s gentle slopes and wide-open spaces, all while surrounded by the gorgeous ocean views stretching out to the islands of Molokai and Lanai. This 18-hole golf course was originally designed by architect Arthur Jack Snyder back in 1967. Since then, it has undergone several renovations, and in 2005, it was re-designed by architect Robin Nelson. Although the terrain is somewhat similar to that of the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course, it features gentle slopes that run up and down on the fairways.

Family Friendly Beaches on Maui

“Best beach in the world.” When living on Maui, you will find that many a beach here fit that exclamation to a tee. Pristine sands, warm tides, and gentle ocean breezes are available to enjoy all across our island home, all year round! Best of all, many are perfect for family’s of all ages to enjoy. Here is a selection of wonderful Maui beaches that many would say are best in the world for family fun:

Kamaole Beach Park III
While all of Kihei’s Kamaole Beach Parks make great options for family outings, Kamaole Beach Park III is perhaps the best of them all! In addition to a very large sandy beach, Kamaole Beach Park III also features an enormous grassy park area filled with benches, grills, kids play areas, and much more. As an added bonus, this beach park is just a few minutes away from takeout restaurants and grocery stores – perfect for grabbing that 1 picnic item you forgot to pack in the morning!

Baby Beach (Spreckelsville)
Tucked away in the historic residential enclave of Spreckelsville, Baby Beach is a fantastic option for those looking to enjoy an outing to the beach in Central Maui. A healthy sized stretch of white sand leads out to a natural lagoon of waist high waters calmed by an exposed stretch of reef. While this beach is a great, safe option to take your kids, you will want to enjoy Baby Beach early as once the day wears and winds increase, you and your family may be pelted by gusts of coarse sands licked up by the afternoon winds.

Baby Beach (Lahaina)
Considered by many to be the best beach for families in the area, Lahaina’s Baby Beach gets its name from the fact that it’s a great beach to take your toddler to. Thanks to an offshore reef, large waves are kept from reaching the coastline, keeping the waters here calm throughout the day. As a bonus, the water here is also very shallow for quite a ways out; giving you and your young ones ample space to wade and explore as tropical fish and sea life float by.

Kapalua Bay
Soft white sands, calm blue waters, amazing sunsets; some might say Kapalua Bay has it all! Often heralded as one of the world’s best beaches, Kapalua Bay offers something for every beachgoer. Lounge with your family on the pristine warm sands, take a stroll alone the adjacent walking path, or bring your gear and go snorkeling!

Wailea Beach
Fronting two of the best resorts in South Maui, Wailea Beach is known for its long stretches of golden sand and warm blue waters. A great place for swimming, boogie boarding, sunbathing, or strolling; this beach is best enjoyed with your family earlier in the day, prior to the arrival of afternoon winds and larger crowds.

While these are just a few of the “best of the best” beaches on Maui, there are many, many more fantastic options available throughout the island; many a simple stroll away from your new luxury Maui home! Enjoy!

Top Maui Beaches

One of the many reasons why so many insist on making Maui their home is the beach. The beauty of Maui’s beaches is just one of a kind. While Oahu has plenty of good beaches too, Maui’s laidback, small-town vibe offers more tranquillity, with less fanfare compared to the beaches of Oahu’s North Shore or Waikiki.

Maui is home to a variety of top rated beaches. Honolua Bay’s excellent surf breaks are perfect for surfing, while the calm waters of Kapalua Beach are ideal for families with kids. The islands sprawling coast means you’re guaranteed to find a good spot under the sun; perfect for enjoying a relaxing day of swimming or sunbathing. Below are a few of Maui resident’s favorite top beaches:

Kaanapali Beach
Fronted by some of the best luxury condos in West Maui, Kaanapali Beach is a miles-long stretch of sand that runs from Black Rock to Canoe Beach. This long and wide beach is ideal for swimming and other water  activities. There’s also a long concrete path adjacent to the beach which offers the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely beachside stroll while passing through a variety of shops and restaurants. Kaanapali Beach is a lively beach area with many activities going on, including a daily local ceremony in which a diver lights a torch along a cliff before diving. This is said to be a re-enactment of the historic dive of King Kahekili, a revered king of Maui. So, if you’re looking to enjoy some cultural activities while doing a bit of shopping on your Maui holiday, then head to Kaanapali.

Makena Beach State Park
Makena Beach is known for its undeveloped sandy coast and blue-green water. This beach is also quite wide, giving you lots of space to enjoy any number of beach and ocean activities. Since the area is not yet developed, there are no resorts and restaurants nearby. However, small shops and food vendors can be found on-site, selling delicious snacks and beverages. Makena is definitely quieter compared to Kaanapali Beach and the other popular beaches in Maui. So if you prefer to swim at a beach that’s not too crowded, then this place would be perfect. But be warned, the waves and current here can be quite strong, so exercise caution when heading to the water.

Kapalua Beach
Kapalua Beach is a beautiful stretch of shoreline located on the north-western tip of Maui. Its water is calmer, so it’s also safe for younger children. The surrounding area is occupied by the Kapalua Resort, but this beach is open to the public. Dubbed the “Best Beach in the World,” by Conde Nast, Kapalua Beach is a scenic little cove, that’s a perfect spot for swimming and snorkelling. Here, your little ones can have a great time playing in the water while watching the sea turtles frolic off shore. After spending a day playing at the beach, enjoy a leisure walk through the Kapalua Coastal Trail, which runs along the beach, and is easily accessible from the main road. There are not too many amenities on Kapalua Beach, but there is a small shack that rents out snorkel gear and paddleboards available.

Wailea Beach
The sands of Wailea Beach are often dotted with umbrellas, occupied by residents and visitors to our lovely island home. Wailea Beach is wide and the ocean is calm. Snorkelling is a great activity on this beach, especially around the rocky outcroppings. You can also enjoy surfing and body boarding here since the beach regularly offers small waves with gentle slopes. When visiting during the winter, you might be lucky enough to spot some whales playing in the water. Expect to hear ukulele music playing from the nearby resorts as you witness another beautiful Maui sunset on the beach!

Waianapanapa State Park
Offering a sweeping view of the ocean, with scenic hills and valleys in the background, this state park and beach on the road to Hana is truly worth a stop. Since many people who come here won’t stay long enough to swim, the beach at Waianapanapa State Park is often not too crowded. Aside from swimming at the beach, there are several other activities you can enjoy here. This 120-acre protected area has picnic pavilions, rental cabins, and camping sites. Consider staying overnight, before continuing your drive to Hana. The views in Waianapanapa State Park are not like any other, and you’ll be treated to pure natural beauty anywhere you look here.

Hamoa Beach
Hamoa Beach is a crescent-shaped beach in East Maui surrounded by scenic, lush landscape. This secluded shore has smooth sands and beautiful blue-green water, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Surrounded by cliffs, this beach has two access points, one of which consists of stairs leading down to the sea coming from a shuttle drop-off area. The other access point is a small service road, accessible by foot only. Hamoa Beach is a famous spot for surfing; bodysurfing and boogie boarding are also popular activities here. Snorkelling around the left of the cove is also possible, but you have to be very careful since this beach is exposed to the open ocean. Thus, powerful currents and surf can be present, especially towards the end of the beach.

Honolua Bay
Honolua Bay is located on the west side of Maui, about a 5-minute drive from Kapalua Bay. This beach is one of the most popular spots for surfing in Maui during the winter months. During this time, Honolua is known for its hollow, but powerful waves offering incredibly long surf rides. The bluffs right above the bay offer an excellent vantage point for visitors to watch expert surfers from a safe distance. During the summer months, the waves in Honolua Bay are calmer, making it a perfect spot for scuba diving and snorkelling. This beach is part of the Honolua-Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District. Thus, you will have a wealth of marine life to explore during your dive. Unfortunately, there’s only a single rocky shoreline here, so it may not be an ideal spot for sunbathers.

Top Places to Ride Your Bike in West Maui

I love the west side of Maui and that is why I have made a name and career for myself here in the field of real estate. For decades I have lived and worked on this wonderful island and truly adore being able to call this place home. And one of the main reasons why West Maui has my heart is because of all the ways to enjoy the island’s stunning outdoors. One such way to do that is on a bicycle. Here is my list of top places to cycle in beautiful West Maui.

1. From Kapalua to Lahaina: If you are more of an experienced biker and are looking for a challenge, then why not lock in your helmet and hop on your wheels and head from Kapalua all the way into Lahaina. It’s a scenic route along the highway where you can enjoy views of the ocean, surrounding islands, and the beauty of the West Maui mountains right next to you.

2. Lower Road: On the Lower Honoapiilani Road, you will love a leisurely stroll along the ocean and beach. It’s a slower-paced road so you won’t have to worry as much about traffic and can instead enjoy a slow ride with stunning views.

3. Napili: Outside of Lahaina and before Kapalua is the area of Napili which is quiet, rural, and has hills. This is a great little ride and you can enjoy a few twists and turns along the way while you stare out to Molokai and Lanai in the distance. Be careful! Keep your eyes on the road as much as possible. Safety first!

4. Front Street: What better way to see west Maui on a bike then on the happening area of Front Street. If you’re used to biking in an urban setting, then Front Street is the spot for you.

5. Airport: The Kapalua Airport is ideal for a biker looking to get some cardio in. This steep incline will have you huffing and puffing all the way up the hill. Get that heart going and enjoy the view from the top.

Top West Maui Beaches

One of the many reasons so many of us love to live on Maui is for the island’s amazing beaches. For me, someone who has been selling beachfront luxury Maui real estate for many years, I know a good beach when I see one. And I will say that along with some of my favorite properties for sale, some of my favorite beaches just so happen to be located in Kapalua.

If you are interested in seeing some of the best beaches in West Maui, I made a good list for you. Here are the top three beaches I love on this side.

1. Oneloa (Ironwoods:) Picture a quiet stretch of white sand beach in a secluded area where rocks around the edges and rainbows are plenty. That beach actually exists and it just so happens to be Oneloa Beach (Ironwoods.) This stretch of white sandy beach that is about a quarter of a mile long is located near the famous Ritz Carlton and Kapalua Resort. It’s a sandy white beach with a shallow reef. Nearby are trails so after you go for a swim you can take a little afternoon hike and really enjoy the beauty that Kapalua has to offer.

2. Honolua Bay: What list of the best beaches in Maui would be complete with listing Honolua Bay? Honolua Bay is hands-down one of the best beaches in all of Hawaii. This bay is a well-known surf spot and also offers plenty of great snorkeling and exploring for people of all ages.

3. Slaughterhouse Beach: This hidden gem of a beach is often missed because it is located right before Honolua Bay. Down a small trail you will find an open cove that offers cliffside views of the blue ocean. You’ll love this beach because it’s often uncrowded and you can have this space all to yourself. It’s truly a beach of paradise!
