Ulupalakua & Maui Wine

While on Maui, Ulupalakua is a must see. Nestled in charming Ulupalakua town, you’ll find Maui Wine and Ulupalakua Ranch Store. They offer the perfect combination of a complimentary wine tasting and delicious locally sourced lunch. We also highly recommend Grandma’s Coffee House in Keokea; a spot that Anthony Bourdain raved about.

One of the best parts about this trip is the awe-inspiring drive deep into the countryside. Driving on Piilani Highway, you’ll experience stunning views of beautiful landscapes. The most fascinating thing is the contrast between your immediate surroundings and looking out over dry, beachy South Maui. Some even say Ulupalakua is reminiscent of Ireland! As you can imagine, it’s very green and wet.

You’ll also have a clear view of Molokini; a partially submerged volcanic crater and Kahoolawe; the smallest island of the Hawaiian archipelago. Kahoolawe became a training ground and bombing range for the U.S. military after World War II. The practice ended in 1990 after years of protest. The island is currently off limits, but Ulupalakua is the perfect viewing spot.

The winery is open Monday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The winery offers tours to learn all about the company’s heritage, going back over 150 years to King Kalakaua – the last King of Hawaii.  You’ll also learn about the facilities and how the wine is made.

Maui Wine offers a wide selection including Chenin Blanc, Grenache, Rose, Syrah, Malbec and more. The most famous wines produced here are the pineapple wine selection. Few places in the world produce pineapple wine and in hot weather, it’s incredibly refreshing.

If you’d like to take wine home or have it shipped, please visit this page for rules and restrictions. Maui Wine also books private tours and tastings. For additional questions, call Maui Wine at (808) 878-6058.
